(Im)Perfect(ion)

“Have no fear of perfection - you’ll never reach it.”

― Salvador Dali

What would you rather be? Perfect or Imperfect?

For me, I have realised I can be a beautiful combination of the both: I never want to choose one or the other, so I will keep my writing as vague as I can. I never want to portray myself in one way or another.

I thought about this idea recently and began to wander what is more commonly thought on. A lot of sayings say things like: ‘you are perfect’ or ‘perfection is unattainable.’ But I also hear a lot of ‘perfectly imperfect’ and ‘imperfections are beautiful.’ So which do we head towards when we need reassurance on how we define perfection?

Now, I would say this both does and doesn’t matter. We shouldn’t strive for perfection, but at the same time- we are all perfectly who were meant to be in this moment. So we are naturally teetering in-between the two ideas.  I have come to love small, broken details in life (potentially classed as imperfections.) These really shine to me and have become a defining point in my photography; I enjoy capturing odd tweaks in our normality, delicate in their stoic fragility.

If you were to ask me, as much as I don’t want this post to be just my opinion. I’d say its up to the individual in question- what do you think? Do you believe everyone and everything is perfect? Do you think we should strive for perfection? Are we all perfectly imperfect? Or are we all imperfect, needing to celebrate such a thought?
