“Our beautiful demise will be of flowers
wilted and left for hours
from the fog of poisoned breath
that came from your lies of death
full of once loved, now abandoned life
cut down by your broken knife.”
Our Beautiful Demise will discuss personal fears, and the demise of what we are usually so comfortable with. Throughout the series, we see a breaking down of what held the character together; the little bow that tied around the subject, both metaphorically and physically has been un-knotted. We see the fall of what was once so perfect, making way for many lessons to be learned, these include: the demise of self, perfection, identity, normality, control, consistency, position, past and fear.
What you may call disturbing, I may see as an opportunity to find beauty. Even darkness and decay have an element of beauty dwelling in their shadows. I hope to challenge this perception by using natural elements such as decay, moss, bones and taxidermy. The series will interpret these elements in new ways, finding the artistry and charm in these natural processes.
In order to become stronger, we must break down the stigma behind feeling weak; we must tear down the walls we have built against pain and invite this malevolent guest in.
This series has come from the need to conquer personal fears, to relieve myself from their weight over the everyday: closure. Many people will connect with this feeling and I only hope to engage that part of yourself, to feel uncomfortable for just a moment and then released.
This series is waiting for gallery representation to exhibit it, until then it will remain unshared. The work will then be available to purchase as fine art quality prints exclusively from said gallery, soon after it'll be shared digitally.
Our Beautiful Demise is currently still a work in progress and is looking for gallery representation, contact tomoscarmiles@gmail.com if you have any questions or wish to discuss exhibiting opportunities.
