Autismus, So Far

This past year, I have began creating one of my first series, titled ‘Autismus’ it’s a series all about my personal journey with my autism and how since my early diagnosis, I have grown into adulthood with it.

I have always known I have autism, but I never truly understood how it applied to my everyday life. It’s only when I started to consider where my creative voice really lied that I saw the potential. This potential was one of being able to apply my passion into learning about myself. It is through creating this ever-growing series that I am learning truly who I am.

I have created 7-10 photos so far that confidently piece into this jigsaw of myself. Each photos talks of a different aspect to autism and how it personally affects me. I am learning that this can both help me understand these colourful aspects of my life, but also they can teach others of what autism looks like to those who feel so greatly from it.

When I think about my autism, I think about the journey I had to go on to get to this point: the speech therapy my mom would take me too, the fight she had to go through to get me into mainstream school and each personal battle I find myself in. Understanding my autism has made everything feel a little easier, as if I have a qualifying justification for the way I think, react and feel.

I hope that this series can continue to grow and that I am able to relieve so tension within myself, and that I can open up a positive conversation about autism. ♥️
